Gum contouring
Gum contouring covers procedures that change the shape or level of the gum. They are done for health reasons – for example when the gum recedes and exposes the necks of the teeth – or for aesthetic reasons, when too much gum shows when you smile or the gum line is uneven. It may also be needed before a crown or veneer, so that the restoration fits well.

When to come for a consultation
- exposed tooth necks and sensitivity near the gum,
- a “gummy smile” or an uneven gum line,
- short teeth that are going to be restored with crowns or veneers.
At the consultation we look for the cause – such as brushing too hard, clenching or inflammation – because without addressing it the result will not last. Professional cleaning is usually needed before the procedure.
